Local SEO Case Study: Personal Trainer Patrick Dempt
In this case study, I show you how personal trainer Patrick Dempt reached #1 in Google Maps within just a few months, and what you as a local service provider can take away from it.
Starting Point: New Website, Hardly Any Visibility
In January 2024, Patrick Dempt launched his project with an almost brand-new website. The problem: anyone searching for personal training in his region simply could not find him. Two weaknesses stood out.
- No visibility on Google Maps: Patrick did not show up in local search results, even though he was already actively running his business.
- Hardly any impressions and clicks from Google Search: The website generated close to zero organic traffic from the region.
In short: the offer was there, the findability was completely missing. This is exactly where local SEO comes in.
Approach: Three Steps to Local Visibility
Step 1: Identifying SEO Potential
Everything started with thorough local keyword research along the search intent of Patrick's ideal clients. Which terms do people in his region actually type in when they look for a personal trainer? This analysis was complemented by a competitor analysis: What are the most visible trainers in the region doing right, and where is there still room for Patrick? This combination provided the foundation for all further measures.
Step 2: Technical and Content Implementation
Based on the analysis, several measures were implemented in parallel. The Google Maps profile was fully built out and optimized so that Google could clearly assign all relevant information. At the same time, NAP consistency was established, meaning a uniform presentation of name, address, and phone number across all relevant places on the web. We aligned the website's meta tags and content consistently with local keywords. In parallel, reviews were built up systematically, because ratings are a central ranking factor in local search.
Step 3: Monitoring and Data-Driven Adjustment
The work was not done after implementation. Using Google Search Console and the Maps ranking, we continuously monitored the development and adjusted the strategy based on data. Local visibility is not a one-off project but a continuous process.
Results: From Zero Visibility to the Top
The measures showed clear effects within a few months. Patrick achieved the following results:
- #1 in Google Maps for personal training in his region
- Impressions up by over 2,000 percent
- Clicks up by over 983 percent
These numbers show how big the difference between an unoptimized and a consistently built local profile can be.
Learnings: What You Can Take Away as a Local Service Provider
Patrick's result is not an isolated case but the outcome of a structured approach that can be transferred to other local service providers. Three insights are particularly relevant.
- A complete Google Maps profile is not optional, it is mandatory. If you neglect your profile, you hand visibility to competitors who have taken this step.
- Consistency pays off. NAP consistency and locally focused content send clear signals to Google and increase relevance for regional search queries.
- Reviews are not a bonus, they are a ranking factor. Building reviews systematically improves not only your image but also your position in local search results.
Especially for personal trainers and other local service providers: full calendars today are driven largely by local visibility. If you invest early in a solid foundation, you benefit in the long run.
